Summer Jams Vol. 4

This month, I’ve tried to curate a playlist that captured my ever-evolving tastes in music. July stirred lots of nostalgic feeling for me so this month’s post will feature a lot of old school remixes, edits, re-edits, etc. Enjoy and stay funky.

I have to start by sending love to all those reading and liking series so far. The last playlist is nearly up to 500 likes! Keep ‘em coming.

Jonas Rathsman – Tobago

Jonas Rathsman, a distinguished member of the French Express collective, put the track out 2 years ago and I totally missed it, until now. This is a massive driving tropical house track that gets better and better upon every listen. Jonas, thank you for blessing us with Tobago.

Daniel Steinberg – Joy & Happiness

Joy and happiness is exactly what this song delivers and again I was 2 years late on a gem of a track. Daniel Steinberg produces a lovely summer house track that’s simultaneously deep yet bubbly. Once the soulful lyrics drop, you are instantly taken to an ethereal level.

Maxwell – Ascension (aywy. & Sh?m Edit)

aywy. & Sh?m do their best take on Kaytranada here. The driving bassline is as infectious as Maxwell’s voice. This is a great track to get your night started, right after drink one (or three).

Nas x Cookin Soul – SoulMatic mixtape

DJ/Producer extraordinaire Cookin Soul did a fantastic mixtape of the classic album Illmatic. This mixtape is perfect for those Sunday summer drives or chilled-out cookouts. It’s 20 minutes of good vibes and epic hip-hop beat making.

Mel Brooks – To Be Or Not To Be (Ali Jamieson Edit)

Wowzers, this has to be the most inventive attempt at an edit that I’ve ever heard. Who even knows or remembers this song ever existing? Mel Brooks rapping, c’mon man! Ali Jamieson takes it to another level by removing the Hitler bits and beefing up the bass on the chorus.

I’m DJ Robellious and I’ve teamed up with MyFreeConcert to profile the very best in deep house, nu-disco, real disco, and everything in between. I’ll be profiling tracks new, old, and lost that have been making my head bop and my body groove.
